Salam from Nabil

Assalamu Alaikom brothers,
Hope all is well with you, all. So, I just finished up my first day of classes. Alhamdullilah, the day was good, and I met some nice people. Anyhow, I pray I and all of us continue benefiting from this month and Allah takes away my laziness and gives me the strength to increase my ibadah. Ameen. Guys, feel free to share a small snapshot of what's new with you,

Here are a couple of hadiths:

Muslim reported that the Prophet (S) said: "How wonderful the situation of a believer is: Everything is good for him, and this is only true for a believer. For if he encounters good, he is grateful to Allah and that is good for him; and if he is afflicted with hardship, he is patient and that is good for him."

Ahmad + Tirmidhi reported that the Prophet (S) said: "Whoever does not thank people (for their favours) has not thanked Allah (properly), Mighthy and Glorious is He."

Here is the most updated rotation schedule:
Nabil-->Gerald-->Sam-->Sameer-->Shamim-->Ibraheem-->Bilal-->Zain-->Azim-->Safi-->Imad-->Usman-->Nurain-->Yusuf-->Nabil-->REPEAT
Alrighty, bros, take care of yourselves, and please keep me and my fam in your prayers and inshallah, I'll do the same.

Peace,
Nabil

From Yusuf: Gates of Paradise

Assalamualaikum guys. InshaAllah Ramadan is going well for everyone.
Here is a hadith I found inspirational:

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 121:

'Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever gives two kinds (of things or
property) in charity for Allah's Cause, will be called from the gates
of Paradise and will be addressed, 'O slaves of Allah! Here is
prosperity.' So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer
their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever
was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be
called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used
to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever
was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the
gate of charity." Abu Bakr said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for
you, O Allah's Apostle! No distress or need will befall him who will
be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called
from all these gates?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, and I hope you will
be one of them."

THE REWARD OF ONE WHO DOES NOT OBSERVE FAST BECAUSE OF A RELIGIOUS DUTY

Assalaamualaikum guys:

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were with the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) on a journey. Some of us had been observing the fast and some of us had not been fasting. We got down at a place on a hot day. Most of us had the cloth for shelter. There were also those amongst us who sheltered (themselves against the rays of the) sun with the help of their hands. The observers of the fast fell down (on account of weakness). Those who had not observed it got up and pitched tents and watered the mounts. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The breakers of the fast have taken away the reward today.

A few points I got from this are:
1) The practicality of Islam;
2) Yet another example of how a big part of Islam is looking out for and helping our fellow Muslims.

Take care gentlemen,
imad

From Nurain

Salam Brothers!

I hope you are all fairing well and that Ramadan is treating you well also!

a Hadith on Ramadan -

Abu Huraira related that the Prophet said: Allah the Majestic and
Exalted said: "Every deed of man will receive ten to 700 times reward,
except Siyam (fasting), for it is for Me and I shall reward it (as I
like). There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts: one when he
breaks the fast and the other when he will meet his Lord" (Muslim).

And one of my favorite Hadith -

Abdullah b. Harith reported: "I have not seen any man smiling more
than the Prophet (pbuh). (Tirmidhi)

Anas reported: "The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was the best in manners.
I had an adopted brother named Abu Umair, who had a sick sparrow named
Nughair. The messenger of Allah (S) would be playful with him and ask
'How is your sparrow Nughair?'" (Bukhari)

Importance of Suhoor

Excerpt from: http://www.lutonmuslims.co.uk/ram_iftaar_suhoor.htm

Salmaan (RA) said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Blessings are found in three things, the Group (Al-Jama'ah), Ath-thareed (a type of food) and As-Suhoor (the Pre-dawn meal)." [At-Tabaraanee, Abu Na'eem]

Abu Hurairah (RA) said that Rasoolillah (SAW) said: "Verily Allah placed Barakah (blessing) in the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and in perfect measurement (weighing)."[Ash-Shairazee]

'Abdullah Ibn Haarith said that one of the Sahabah (companion) said: 'I entered the house of the Messenger (SAW) whilst he was taking the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), and he (SAW) said: "Indeed it (the Suhoor) is blessing that Allah has given to you so do not leave it out." [An-Nasaaee and Ahmad]

The reality that there are great blessings in the Suhoor (Pre-dawn meal) is very apparent because there is in it:
(a) the following of the Sunnah,
(b) it makes the fast easier upon the person who is fasting,
(c) it increases the desire in the person to want to continue to fast because of the ease upon the fasting person and
(d) there is also in it the principle of being different from the People of the Book because they are prohibited from taking the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal).
For this reason the Messenger of Allah (SAW) called it the blessed meal.
Allah (SWT) and the Angels send Salaah upon the people who take the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal)

The greatest blessing of the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) may be that Allah (SWT) engulfs those who partake in it with His Forgiveness, showers His Mercy on them, while His angels ask of Him to forgive and pardon them.

Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree said that the Messenger (SAW) said: "Eating the Suhoor is blessed. Do not neglect it even if you take a gulp of water, because Allah and His angels invoke blessings upon those who partake in the pre-dawn meal." [Ahmad].

It is very important that the Muslim does not allow this great blessing from his Merciful Lord to escape him. What is the best thing the Muslim can eat for Suhoor
The Messenger (SAW) said: "The best Suhoor for the believer is dates." [Abu Dawood, Al-Baihaqee and Ibn Hibbaan]

It is recommended to delay the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) till just before dawn. Zaid ibn Thaabit said: "We ate the Suhoor with the Messenger (SAW), then we got up to offer the Salaah (prayer - in this case the Fajr prayer). I asked "What was the time between the Adhaan (call to prayer) and the Suhoor?" He said: "(The time it would take) to recite fifty verses." [Bukhaaree and Muslim]

The Ruling for SuhoorThe Messenger of Allah (SAW) commanded that whoever wants to fast must take the Suhoor (pre-dawn meal). He (SAW) said: "Whoever wishes to fast, then let him eat something for Suhoor." [Ibn Abi Shaibah, Ahmad and others]

And he (SAW) also said: "Take the Suhoor because in the Suhoor is Barakah (blessings)."[Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Then he (SAW) also prohibited the Muslims from neglecting it. He (SAW) said: "What differentiates our fast from the fast of the People of the Book is the Suhoor meal." [Ibn Abi Shaibah, Ahmad]

...I think we skipped Zain and Imad...Then Nabil again...

Assalamu Alaikum everyone. I thought these were two short, but interesting hadiths that we should all try to remember this month:

The strongest tie of imaan is having loyalty for the sake of Allah, disassociating from others for the sake of Allah, love for the sake of Allah and hatred for the sake of Allah. [al Hakim, al Tabrani]

The intelligent one is he who has subdued his lower self and who has worked for what comes after death, and the stupid one is he who has put his lower self in pursuance of its desires and who has vain hopes about Allah. [Tirmidhi]

InshaAllah, you have all been having a great Ramadan.

Seeking Allah's Help

Assalamu alaikum bros,

2 Ayahs have really stuck out for me this past week of Ramadan

[[2:45]]
And Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded,
واستعينوا بالصبر والصلاة وإنها لكبيرة إلا على الخاشعين
WastaAAeenoo bissabriwassalati wa-innaha lakabeeratunilla AAala alkhashiAAeen
matches 2 translation(s). Pickthal, Muhsin Khan

[[2:153]]
O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).
يا أيها الذين آمنوا استعينوا بالصبر والصلاة إن الله مع الصابرين
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooistaAAeenoo bissabri wassalatiinna Allaha maAAa assabireen
matches 1 translation(s). Muhsin Khan

We all go through our difficult time in life, the best way to get through them is with Allah's help.

How do we seek Allah's help?

Through Patience and Prayer.

- Make an extra effort to do the congregational prayers in a masjid.
- Pray the qiyam al Layl (night prayers) especially during Ramadan, in congregation and by yourself

Yeah it can be hard...but even Allah recognized that it is a big thing..so be patient! The more you do it, the easier it will insha Allah become. And when its starts becoming easy, it is a sign that you are attaining khushoo', awareness of Allah.

Just remember, Allah is on the side of those who are patient!

one of my favorite hadiths

assalamu alaykum guys, hope u r all doing awesome insha'Allah, alhamdulillah im doing well, u guys need to make a trip to visit me down here in florida :) Anyways, heres a cool hadith:

Aisha (ra) reported that Rasoolullah (SAW) said, "Whoever seeks Allah's Pleasure at the expense of man's displeasure, will win Allah's Pleasure and Allah will cause men to be pleased with him. And whoever seeks to please men at the expense of Allah's Displeasure, will win the Displeasure of Allah and Allah will cause men to be displeased with him" (narrated by Ibn Hibban).

Alright guys, mash'Allah this daily hadith thing is sooo cool. Talk to you all soon, insh'Allah.

Salaams and Ramadan Mubarak

As-salaamu-alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak to everyone! It's been a while
since I've seen everyone, but Inshallah this blog will keep us a
little closer. I'm not really sure where I fall in the rotation, but
I figured today was as good a day as any other to post something.

The Prophet said: He who gives food for a fasting person to break his
fast, he will receive the same reward as him, except that nothing will
be reduced from the fasting persons reward." [Ahmad, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn
Maajah, Ibn Hibbaan, Saheeh].

Lets try to use this hadith during the days of Ramadan to host friends
and family for iftar, so that we can gain the love of Allah (swt), as
well as get to know our community better. Take care.

Rotation Schedule

Nabil-->Gerald-->Sam-->Sameer-->Shamim-->Ibraheem-->Bilal-->Zain-->Azim-->Safi-->Imad-->Usman-->Nurain-->Yusuf-->Nabil-->REPEAT

I thought it would be helpful to have the schedule posted here as a reference.

Istikhara

Alhumdullah, Ramadan is an excellent time for eliminating our common mistakes and becoming more steadfast in our praiseworthy habits. From among the most praiseworthy of habits is that of seeking Allah’s guidance in all of our affairs. To that end, I figured that I would post the Hadith of Jabir bin 'Abdullah which is collected by Imaam Bukhari in his Saheeh:

The Prophet (SallAllaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara in all matters as he taught us the Surahs of the Quran. He said, "If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer):

'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, Wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, Wa as'alaka min fadlika al-'azlm Fa-innaka taqdiru Wala aqdiru, Wa ta'lamu Wala a'lamu, Wa anta 'allamu l-ghuyub. Allahumma, in kunta ta'lam anna hadha-l-amra Khairun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati amri (or 'ajili amri wa'ajilihi) Faqdirhu wa yas-sirhu li thumma barik li Fihi, Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha-lamra shar-run li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati amri (or fi'ajili amri wa ajilihi) Fasrifhu anni was-rifni anhu. Waqdir li al-khaira haithu kana Thumma ardini bihi.'
(O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, And Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You know the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter--(or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)--Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, And then bless me in it, and if You know that this job is harmful to me In my religion and subsistence and in the Hereafter--(or said: If it is worse for my present and later needs)--Then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me, And make me satisfied with it).
The Prophet added that then the person should name (mention) his need.

I am sure that this is not new to any of you. However, I make Du’a that Allah make us all firm in implementing this knowledge and returning to him for guidance in all of our affairs….Ameen

Your Brother,
Ibraheem

Blessings of fasting

Assalamu Alaikum. Inshallah Ramadan is treating everyone well. Here is my ahadith for the day.

The messenger of Allah (saws) reported in a hadith al-Qudsi that Allah (SWT) said:
"All acts done by the sons of Adam are meant for him, except fasting. It is exclusively meant for Me, and I (alone) will reward him for it"
(Bukhari and Muslim)

I think Ibraheem is next if we're following the cycle.

"God has no interest in any person's abstention from eating and
drinking, if that person does not give up lying and dishonest/indecent
actions" [narrated by Hadhrat Abu Hurrah in Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 3,

Ibn al-Qayyim: "...is such a person not nourished night and day by his Beloved?"

as-Salamu 'alaykum;

There is an interesting section of 'Zad al-Ma'ad' (2/33) where Ibn al-Qayyim talks about sawm al-wisal, which is that the Prophet would sometimes fast an entire 24-hour day without breaking his fast. When asked by the Companions why he had forbidden them from doing so while he himself would practice it, he replied: "I am not like anyone of you. During the night, my Lord provides me with food and drink."

Ibn al-Qayyim mentions that there are two interpretations to what the Prophet meant when he said this. The first is that he is literally provided with food and drink, and the second is that he is being nourished spiritually by Allah. The stronger of the two interpretations is the second, because if the Prophet was being provided with actual food and drink, he would no longer be fasting at all, let alone continuously.

He then proceeded with a beautiful exposition of how it is that the servant can be nourished by Allah without eating or drinking anything. Although Ibn al-Qayyim wrote this in regards to the Prophet's continuous fasting, it is something that can actually apply to any fasting person, such as ourselves:

"...and those who have even the slightest bit of experience and longing know how little the body needs much physical nourishment when it is instead provided with the nourishment of the heart and soul, let alone when it comes to the one who is joyous, happy, and victorious because he has reached the One he has sought out, and whose eye is cooled by his Beloved, and feels blessed with His closeness, and is pleased with Him and the bounties and gifts of his Beloved.

And His protection showers him at all times, and his Beloved is constantly tending to his affairs, being as Generous as can be with complete Love towards him - is this not the greatest nourishment for the one who loves his Lord? So, how would it be when love of the Beloved - than Whom nothing is more exalted, and nothing is greater in might, and nothing is greater in beauty, and nothing is more complete, and nothing is greater in kindness - when love of Him fills the heart, and love of him takes over all regions of his heart and limbs, and love of Him is as firmly established as can be?

And this is his condition with the One he loves...

So, is such a person not nourished night and day by his Beloved?"

Rasheed sent this out to email (posting it here also)

Asalaamu Alaikum Brothers
Insha' Allah you brothers will have an excellent fast and your health and Iman will increase throughout the month.
Insha' Allah the following message will be accurate
Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3: Narrated 'Aisha: The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read.
The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?' Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous." (96.1, 96.2, 96.3) Then Allah's Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear that something may happen to me." Khadija replied, "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones." Khadija then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin 'Abdul 'Uzza, who, during the PreIslamic Period became a Christian and used to write the writing with Hebrew letters. He would write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to Waraqa, "Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!" Waraqa asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" Allah's Apostle described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, "This is the same one who keeps the secrets (angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out." Allah's Apostle asked, "Will they drive me out?" Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said, "Anyone (man) who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly." But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while.

Post using email

Bukhari reported:

That the prophet (S) said, "Whoever prays during the nights of Ramadan with faith, seeking his reward from Allah, will have his past sins forgiven."

Automating this blog

Asalamu'alaikum Nabil,

Here is how we can automate this blog so that everything can be done just through email and it is easier for everyone. I would do these steps myself, but it seems only one person, that person being you, has setup authority.

The following link explains how to have blog posts automatically sent out in email
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=41453&topic=8929. Basically we will need to create an email group with all of our emails and have the blog post sent to that email group.

If individuals choose to, each of us can also setup to make a post through email without having to log on to the blog as described here:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=41452&topic=8929.

Ramadhan Kareem

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

May Allah allow us to draw nearer to him this Ramadhan. May He allow us to utilize this month to increase in iman and taqwa, and to feel the sweetness of ibadah for His sake alone. Aameen.

Ayah for the day:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُون

"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed to those before you so that you may attain God consciousness" - (Al-Quran 2:183)
